On 01 May 2017, at 04:00 pm, at the National Election Committee (NEC) headquarters, H.E Mr. Sik Bun Hok, NEC’s chairman, hosted a meeting with Mr. Cesar Rossello, Centrist Democrat International (CDI) Coordinator for Asia Pacific Region to learn about election in Cambodia.
After H.E Mr. Sik Bun Hok, NEC’s chairman, shared some important information regarding the progress of Cambodia since the first election in 1993 until election in 2013 including institutional reform of NEC and the change from manual voter registration to computer-based registration, Mr. Cesar Rossello was really interested in the development of Cambodia and the 4th Mandate of Commune/Sangkat Council Election.
Mr. Cesar Rossello mentioned that his organization would send out about 07 to 08 observers to observe the upcoming Commune/Sangkat Council Election. As planned, the arrival of observers to Cambodia would be on 02 June 2017 and meet with NEC’s leaders prior to observing at polling stations on 04 June 2017.
H.E Mr. Sik Bun Hok stated that NEC welcomed this plan and was always open to national and international observers to ensure transparency in the Commune/Sangkat Council Election 2017. In addition, NEC had also issued the invitation letter via Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia to invite international observers to partake in the election observation in Cambodia.
