According to the Law on the Organization and Functioning of the National Election Committee (NEC), it has the jurisdiction and duty to establish a commission to destroy the used-ballots in the Election of Members of the National Assembly in each mandate after these ballots have been stored safely for 6 years and the used-ballots during each Election of Communes/Sangkat Councils after these ballots have been stored safely for 3 years from the Election Day of each mandate.
Following the spirit of the aforementioned law, NEC will organize the event on the destruction of the used-ballots in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017 elections and several old documents on 24 June 2020 at 8:30 am at # 9, Street 345, Khan Toul Kork as in the map attached herewith.
This event will be held under the presidency of H.E. Mr. Nuth Sokhom, NEC vice-chairman.
According to the agenda, H.E. Mr. Tep Nytha, NEC general secretary, will make a consolidation report on the number of ballots to be destroyed regarding:
- The used-ballots in the Election of Members of the Senate 2012;
- The used-ballots in the Election of Members of the National Assembly 2013;
- The used-ballots in the Councils Election 2014; and
- The used-ballots in the Election of Communes/Sangkat Councils 2017.
This is the 4th time for NEC to destroy the used-ballots since it has organized the elections by itself from 1998 up to the present.
This notification is deemed of an invitation to representatives of political parties, national and international observers and media to witness the event and cover the news.
