Press Release: Voter Lists Revision and Voter Registration 2019 Will Commence in May

“NEC is currently very busy with two tasks ahead such as voter lists revision and voter registration 2019 and the Councils Election in the 3rd Mandate 2019,” said H.E. Mr. Tep Nytha, NEC General Secretary, during the closing session of the training course for officials of Provincial/Capital Election Secretariats (PEC), political parties, NGOs on Voter Lists Revision and Voter Registration 2019 on the afternoon of 22 March 2019.

His Excellency explained that the Law on the Election of Members of the National Assembly requires NEC to conduct voter lists revision and voter registration in May annually. Otherwise, in which year there is no universal election to be organized, NEC would make an alternative decision on the date. In 2019, there isn’t a universal election to be organized but only a  non-universal election; hence, the voter lists revision and voter registration shall be conducted following the schedule set out by the law. 

Apart from raising legal aspect and responding to participant’s questions, H.E. Mr. Tep Nytha, recommended to all participating stakeholders to strengthen their capacity to cascade the training at respective institution and to keep strengthening duty-based collaboration to accomplish the task of voter lists revision and voter registration 2019. His Excellency advised PEC officials to pay greater attention to the following tasks:

  • Cascading the training on voter lists revision and voter registration at capital/provincial level by attentively providing a comprehensive training on procedures of performing the tasks on both theory and computer technicality.
  • Monitor and facilitate the process of voter lists revision and voter registration at commune/Sangkat, particularly focus on delivering, allocation and maintenance of materials, documents and equipment serving for voter registration; and instruct trainers in municipality, district and Khan to monitor and facilitate the work with voter registration team related to the implementation of voter registration procedures, data entry and transfer via computer system on a regular basis;
  • Sustain closed collaboration with local authorities at all levels to facilitate and take steps to deal with voter registration related-issues arising under their authorities during voter lists revision and voter registration and shall report regularly and immediately of any case which requires to ask for recommendation or decision from NEC.

Meanwhile, great attention shall be paid to the request for collaboration from competent authorities in charge of security to strengthen security, safety and orders during voter lists revision and voter registration. 

It is worth informing that the training lasts 3 days, from 20 to 22 March 2019 at NEC conference hall with participation of PEC officials, NEC officials, representatives of 7 political parties and 16 NGOs, totaling 103 persons.
